I previously made 2 posts on the topic of preloaders ( The right way to do a preloader in AS3, External Preloader; more complex cases ), well this post will be a continuation of those. And one that I believe not everyone will agree with me. I know that because I didn’t agree with it at first but the more I thought about it the more it felt right

As you can tell I have been having tons of fun lately playing with the new multi-touch and gesture APIs in Flash Player 10.1 and AIR 2.0. Based on my videos and examples there have been a ton of questions that have come up, many of which I didn’t know the answers to. There are still many things to test and I will pick Danny Dura’s brain while we are sunning ourselves this week in Brasil

There has been a lot of talk about openness lately as well as our mobile strategy so I want to explain some things that I think are being misrepresented. As many of you know, we established the Open Screen Project as way for us to work together with the leaders in the mobile, desktop, and device industries in part, so we can deliver the highest quality Flash runtime across all these devices.

After a long wait (sorry), I have finally recorded the answers to the questions from Just Ask Us episode 2. If you happen to follow me on Twitter and were online last night, you had the ability to watch me record it live and ask more questions. I decided to record it using UStream so people can interact and chat as I record.

Want to see more than 2400 dominoes in 3D ?(why would you not?) Head over the Twist Image holiday card, see the Holiday Humanoes and make some with your friends’ faces on them. I know that for every project I say that it was the most complicated one that I did, but this one really was the most complicated I ever did. There even was a night where I didn’t sleep because I wasn’t sure I could make it happen.

This is obviously a very hot topic right now and many people have been rightfully pissed off by our decision to cancel the public beta. I too am disappointed by the decision as I have been telling audiences for months that it was coming. Based on a lot of the things that I have read over the last day or so I felt I needed to address this topic as people are coming up with all kinds of conspiracy theories

Ok when I say great I may be a little biased because I’m the one who presented it, but nonetheless I think it came out great. The main reason for this is that all of the demos and features worked smoothly without any hiccups. In this one hour session I cover the basics of using the new data features in Flash Builder 4 to install and utilize the ZendAMF library for PHP

Flash websites are not a novelty nowadays but good interactive web pages with smart and irreproachable design are really a rarity. In spite of the fact that Flash is aimed at improving visual impression and is considered to be a winning contemporary web design technology it may spoil your site image if used improperly. I bet you have seen a lot of Flash websites which design leaves much to be desired just because successful Flash techniques were misused.

There is an opinion that Flash harms search engine visibility because of its interactivity and thus may influence your website rankings in the negative way. I have written this article a while back for FFDMag , but I thought I would put it here also. It lost a bit of relevance because YouTube now has an AS3 API for its player, but if you work on a project that uses TubeLoc, I think this article can be useful. What you should know: – Basic knowledge of ActionScript – Basic knowledge of YouTube What you will learn: – How to load YouTube videos into Flash – How to use the TubeLoc library to control those videos Embedding a YouTube movie in an HTML page is an easy task, but we can’t say the same about embedding a YouTube clip in a Flash/Flex website.

I can’t believe that in two weeks I will be back in Latin America and I’m so excited about it. If you live anywhere in South America and are even remotely interested in Flash then you have to attend. It is not often that Adobe gets to come down to see you, although I’m hoping this is the start of a new trend.

I like to think of myself as a pretty organized person – ok I admit I’m pretty much borderline OCD when it comes to having everything in its right place. So one thing that has always interested me is how best to structure and organize my design/web projects. As a freelancer I’ve worked in-house for lots of different design agencies and I’m always curious to see how they keep all their projects organized and what naming conventions they use

I am very happy that I can officially announce the Adobe Influxis Latin Flash Tour! As I have talked about in previous posts, I was looking for a company to sponsor the tour and the great guys over at Influxis didn’t hesitate to jump on board. They immediately expressed an interest in helping to spread some Flash love to many places in Latin America that are not ordinarily on the itinerary. I can’t express enough how much I appreciate them doing this as the tour would not be happening without them.

I wrote this a couple months back for FFDMag and now that some time has passed I thought it would be a good idea to also post it on my blog and get some Google juice for the work that I put into it. So here it is: In this time of economic crisis, marketing budgets are shifting from traditional to digital because of the later’s ability to provide data about its effects. Flash has never been great at web analytics, but a new library, Google Analytics for Flash, is going to change this.
